Today was a sea day, which means we have to work extra-hard to keep the
passengers from being bored. On most of those days the entertainment tends
to have a busier schedule, and today was no exception. We started at 11:00
with the "Port Shopping" presentation in the theatre where a staff member
talks about all the shopping details in the port cities, most especially
related to diamonds. It's an easy "show" if you want to call it that. We
start with a video presentation and then it's just one person with a headset
mic. Basically Matt and I just brought our laptops and goofed around in the
control room while the presentation, all two hours of it, went on. It's got
some appeal though, in a 700 seat theatre people were standing on the sides
and the back. We tried counting how many times in the presentation she said
"diamond". We lost count.
Later that day they had tech runs for Undercover, one of their production
shows that was scheduled for that night. Thank God they had a new dancer in
the cast which meant a full run through. Otherwise, I would have been
dropped into the show after only having seen it twice and run it once. With
this show, there's 24 music tracks, four singers, and a lot of mute cues
which we have to follow ourselves. Matt was there to back me up for the
first show but really didn't need to do much, which I was very happy about.
The singers wanted some adjustments to their stage mix after the show but
all in all it was a good first show. Then, for the second show at 10:15,
things went even better. Now I had the show fresh in my mind and the
singers dialed in. For that run, Matt didn't even stay in the booth and
basically everyone was happy--singers, tech, and of course, audience. I
walked away from that show pretty stoked.
Tomorrow is the hypnotist, a really easy show. And after that, it's the
ceremonial "passing of the pager", where Matt officially hands off the pager
to me. At that point, I'm basically the head audio guy for the entire ship.
Look for that report and pictures of the ceremony tomorrow.
